Which day cream suits your skin?
Which cream do you use? Ordinary, anti-aging, or vitamin-containing day cream? Day cream good for dry skin, for normal skin, for sensitive or oily skin? Or day cream on a natural basis, or day cream with a color? Or have you never really thought about it that way? There are many types of day cream on the market and although the goal is often stated on the jar, it is nice to learn a little more about why a day cream suits your skin well. That is why this blog is devoted to the most common skin types and the day cream that suits them well.
Skin basics
The skin is made up of different layers, such as the epidermis (epidermis), the dermis (dermis) and the hypodermis (under skin). The epidermis is a layer of keratinized cells that protects the underlying layers. The dermis is mainly composed of collagen, hyaluronic acid and elastin. Collagen provides firmness, elastin for resilience and hyaluronic acid for moisture balance. Although not every cream penetrates the skin equally deeply, it is important to always use a cream. In addition to nourishing the dermis, it also ensures that the epidermis strengthens and thus can better protect the deeper layers of the skin.
The dry skin
While you might think that dry skin is the same as dehydrated skin, these are two different skin types. With dry skin there is too little sebum production (too little fat). This can manifest itself in redness, itching, a pulling sensation, roughness and in extreme cases, flakes or fissures can even occur. Dry skin benefits from oil-rich products. Macademia oil, almond oil, tea tree oil are some examples of these types of products. Also make sure that the cream you use does not contain perfume and/or alcohol, because these substances dry out the skin.
Dehydrated skin
In dehydrated skin, there is actually a lack of moisture in the dermis. This can happen to anyone and can be due to all kinds of factors, including drinking too little, extremely dry air or aggressive cleaning products. This can manifest itself in skin that feels 'empty', but it can also show signs of dry skin such as skin that feels tight. Dehydrated skin needs hydration. Make sure you use a moisturizing day cream that contributes to the moisture balance of the skin. Ingredients that you want to find on the ingredient list are as follows: hyaluronic acid, glycerine, collagen and petrolatum (vaseline).
The oily skin
You can recognize oily skin by shiny skin, especially in the T-zone. More pimples and blackheads may be present and pores may be clearly visible. Oily skin has too much sebum production. Sebum keeps the skin supple and protects against external influences, but due to excessive production we see an accumulation of fat at the level of the skin. This can have all kinds of causes, hormones play an important role and it can be genetic. It is important to choose a water-based day cream that restores the natural skin balance, so that sebum production is reduced. Ensures that aqua is mentioned first in the ingredients list. Hyaluronic acid is also good for oily skin as it provides hydration to the skin without adding more fat to the skin.
And what about normal skin?
Hydrating never hurts, on the contrary: it's good for every skin. Most day creams are aimed at nourishing and moisturizing the skin. Also for normal skin, there are a number of ingredients that you simply would rather not put on your skin, even if your skin is not dry, dehydrated or oily. Alcohol, perfume, glycol are examples of these ingredients.
